Sarah Ho, Piano

Sarah HoCanadian pianist Sarah Ho was raised in Edmonton, Alberta and began piano studies at the age of six. At the age of 11 she was accepted into the Alberta College Academy Program for Gifted Young Musicians. Since that time she has been consistently recognized as soloist and chamber musician in performances, festivals and competitions across Canada, the United States and in Europe. First prizes include the Chiang-Wen Yeh International Piano Competition in Washington, D.C., the Canadian Music Competition in Ottawa, and the Society of American Musicians Contest in Chicago, Illinois. Ms. Ho has also been the recipient of top honours at the Dorothy Anderson International Piano Competition, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra Competition and the Ludmila Knezkova-Hussey International Piano Competition in New Brunswick, Canada.

Many of Ms. Ho's solo and chamber music performances have been recorded for broadcast on CBC radio; since the age of 10 she has been the profile of several television programs, such as "New Performers", where she made her orchestral debut with the CFRN television orchestra. Other orchestral performances include appearances with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra. She has performed in notable venues and summer festivals around the world, including the Schubert Theatre on Broadway in New York, the Kennedy Center, the Banff Festival for the Arts, the Internationale Meisterkurse Fur Musik-Zurich, the National Arts Centre Young Artists Programme, and the Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. Other notable appearances include performances for the former Prime Minister of Canada, Brian Mulroney, and Queen Elizabeth II of England.

Ms. Ho has worked under some of the most renowned musicians of our time. At Indiana University, she received her Bachelor's Degree with Distinction and was awarded a Performer's Certificate for outstanding musical performance, under the guidance of Menahem Pressler, of the Beaux Arts Trio. At Yale University, where she studied with Claude Frank, she received a Master's degree and an Artist Diploma. In Edmonton, her principle teacher was Wolfram Linnebach. Additional coaches have included Stephane Lemelin, and Marek Jablonski.

Ms. Ho has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards in recognition of her achievements. She has twice received the Sir James Lougheed Award of Distinction from the Government of Alberta and upon graduation from Yale University, was awarded the Alumni Prize for outstanding achievement. Ms. Ho has also been the recipient of scholarships from the Anne Burrows Foundation for Young Musicians, the Edmonton Community Foundation-Winspear Fund, and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
